Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederick Nielsen emphatically stated that the island is not for sale, responding to Donald Trump’s proposals for US control of the territory. During a visit to Copenhagen, Nielsen and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen expressed unity against what they termed “disrespectful” US rhetoric, while emphasizing their desire for a respectful partnership with the US. Both leaders are open to discussions with Trump, despite concerns over his previous comments and the overwhelming desire among Greenlanders for independence from Denmark rather than annexation by the US.
