Google has introduced a new experimental generative AI feature in Chrome M122 called “Help me write.” This tool can assist in writing descriptive sentences or paragraphs based on a short prompt. Using Gemini models, it understands the context of the webpage to provide relevant suggestions. For example, on a review page, it can generate review-like suggestions instead of sales copy.
For instance, in one example, the tool provided a detailed description of an item for sale based on a simple prompt: “moving to a smaller place selling air fryer for 50 bucks.” The suggestion included a paragraph that effectively conveyed the message. Users can adjust the length and tone of the suggestion if needed. Once satisfied, they can click the Replace button to switch to the suggested write-up.
To activate this experimental tool, go to Chrome’s Settings in the three-dot drop-down menu and enable “Help me write” in the Experimental AI page. When you want to rewrite text, highlight it and right-click to access the “Help me write” box. Currently, the feature is only available on Chrome browsers for Mac and Windows in the US, and it supports prompts and suggestions in English.
Google initially announced this writing tool in January as part of integrating AI features into Chrome. Along with “Help me write,” the browser will also receive an AI-powered tab organizer and customizable themes.
