Expressive E has released the Osmose CE, a more affordable version of its Osmose MPE keyboard, now offered as a MIDI controller without the built-in synthesizer. The Osmose CE is available in two models: a 49-key version priced at $999 and a 61-key version for $1,199, significantly lower than the original Osmose’s starting price of $1,799. The new model maintains the unique features of the Osmose, such as moving keys for expressive playing and MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE). The Osmose CE is designed for tighter integration with desktop software, featuring the new Ctrl-e suite with over 900 presets and improved compatibility with major DAWs like Ableton Live, Bitwig, Cubase, and Logic Pro. Existing Osmose users will also receive access to the new software features through a firmware update.
Why It Matters
The introduction of the Osmose CE reflects a growing trend in the music technology industry towards more accessible and versatile musical instruments. By reducing the cost and focusing on MIDI capabilities, Expressive E aims to attract a broader range of musicians, from hobbyists to professionals. MPE technology, which allows for nuanced control over individual notes, has been gaining traction in recent years, with musicians increasingly seeking tools that enhance expressiveness in performance. The Osmose family of keyboards has already garnered attention for its innovative design, and this new model expands its market potential while maintaining compatibility for existing users.
