Chinese-language newspaper Ming Pao Daily News is closing its Canadian operations in Richmond, B.C., and Toronto, citing financial reasons. A letter to the B.C. Labour Ministry indicates that 60 employees will be terminated, effective January 31, with printing ceasing on January 17. The Vancouver and Toronto editions, launched in 1993, had previously received accolades, including a B.C. Jack Webster Award in 2018. Ming Pao, founded in Hong Kong in 1959, has not commented on the closure.
