The federal and Saskatchewan governments have agreed to extend the province’s $10-a-day child-care program for an additional five years starting in the 2026-27 fiscal year, with a federal commitment of $1.6 billion and a three-percent annual increase in funding. The deal expands age eligibility and includes a one-year extension of the Early Learning and Child Care Infrastructure Fund. Some for-profit daycares will also be allowed to access the subsidized program under the same regulations. This extension aims to alleviate childcare costs for families and support the recruitment and retention of early childhood education professionals.
