Ai Weiwei to Create New Work in Manchester

Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei announced plans for a “monumental” exhibition in Manchester, marking his first major show in northern England. Known for his role in designing Beijing’s Olympic stadium and his 2010 installation at the Tate Modern, Ai will lead the spring/summer exhibitions at Aviva Studios. The exhibition will address themes of British imperialism, Chinese-British relations, and globalisation. Ai emphasized the significance of the venue, stating it calls for substantial artistic work.
