The UN has announced an independent investigation into mass killings in el-Fasher, Sudan, amid a civil war that has resulted in over 150,000 deaths and millions displaced. UN human rights chief Volker Türk condemned the lack of international action against the atrocities committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), who recently captured el-Fasher. The situation is described as worse than the Janjaweed genocide two decades ago, with mass killings and targeted attacks on civilians. The G7 has labeled the conflict the world’s largest humanitarian crisis, calling for urgent action and accountability for the perpetrators.
