Kayaker Fends Off Shark Attack with Paddle

A Coromandel holidaymaker, Kanaru Namioka, experienced a shocking shark attack while kayaking with his mother in Matapaua Bay on Christmas Eve. The shark approached unexpectedly and attacked his kayak, lifting its head near Namioka’s leg to bite the boat. Fortunately, the kayak provided protection as he repeatedly struck the shark with his paddle until it released its grip. Namioka recounted the frightening encounter, emphasizing its suddenness and intensity.
