British prime minister says he has no plans to talk with Putin as he reaffirms support for Ukraine

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that he will not speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G20 summit, emphasizing support for Ukraine as the U.K.’s top priority. Starmer’s decision comes after German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s recent call with Putin, the first publicly announced conversation between Putin and a major Western leader in two years. The U.K. has committed 12.8 billion pounds in aid to Ukraine since Russia’s invasion in February 2022, and Starmer stressed the need for continued support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression and the recent involvement of North Korean troops.
