A B.C. woman, Qin Shen, has lost her appeal against a 12-year sentence for the attempted murder of her online rival, Jing Lu, in a Vancouver courtroom in 2021. Shen, who was found guilty after attacking Lu with a hammer and knife, argued that her mental illness contributed to her actions, but the court upheld the original sentence, stating that her animosity towards Lu was the main driving factor. Shen’s defense claimed the trial judge did not adequately consider her mental state, but the appeal court disagreed. Consequently, Shen remains in prison, with eight years left to serve.
