An experienced diver, Benjamin Rangi Murray, was found to have died from methamphetamine intoxication while diving off the Tairāwhiti coast on November 29 last year. The 58-year-old, who was a qualified diving instructor in good health, had met with a family member and an acquaintance before taking his boat out for an afternoon dive near the Tatapouri Fishing Club in Gisborne. After demonstrating the use of diving tanks to his relative and collecting kina, he entered the water for a free dive. He subsequently began seizing, leading to his tragic death.
