Austrian People’s Party nominates Christian Stocker as interim leader after Nehammer resigns

The Austrian People’s Party nominated Christian Stocker as interim leader after Chancellor Karl Nehammer announced his resignation following collapsed coalition talks. Stocker, a lawyer and member of Parliament, is known for his crisis communication skills. Nehammer, who became chancellor in 2021, recently met with both Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and his successor will be announced by President Alexander Van der Bellen after their meeting.
