On this day in sports history, in 2022, Washington Capitals center Alex Ovechkin scored a hat trick in a 7-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks, becoming one of only three players in NHL history to score 800 goals alongside Wayne Gretzky and Gordie Howe. In 1942, the Washington Redskins won the NFL Championship with a 14-6 victory over the Chicago Bears, while in 1958, Gordie Howe of the Detroit Red Wings scored his 400th NHL goal in a game against the Montreal Canadiens.
