Africa: Still Hopes for a Future Plastic Treaty – but It Won’t Be Easy

Kathmandu, Nepal faced disappointment in late 2024 with unconvincing outcomes from COP 16 and COP 29, as well as a lack of consensus at INC-5 on reducing plastic pollution. Despite setbacks, activists continue to push for a strong treaty, aiming to cap plastic production and prioritize health in future negotiations. While hope remains for progress, the fight against plastic pollution continues with a focus on collaboration and ambitious goals for a more sustainable future.
