A riverside community of over 9,000 people in Lagos, Nigeria, was forcefully evicted and demolished by state officials, police, and armed men. Despite a court order prohibiting the eviction, residents of Ilaje-Otumara were given only moments to collect their belongings before bulldozers rolled through their homes. This is a common occurrence in Lagos, with similar evictions in other communities in recent years. Residents were left with nowhere to go, fleeing with their belongings or leaving them on the roadside.
