Brazil will invest approximately 2.3 billion reais ($444.2 million) to enhance its artificial intelligence ecosystem, with a focus on projects involving both U.S. and Chinese tech firms. Over half of the funding, 1.3 billion reais ($251 million), will support a supercomputing project in collaboration with Huawei and iFlytek in Rio de Janeiro, aimed at developing large language models. An additional 1 billion reais ($193.1 million) will finance a supercomputer expected to rank among the world’s ten most powerful, to be installed in Rio Grande do Norte. The government aims to strengthen national data sovereignty while balancing relationships with both superpowers.
