A giant, almost perfect ring of galaxies, named the Big Ring, has been discovered in the distant Universe, challenging our current understanding of cosmology. The structure, 1.3 billion light-years in diameter, does not match any known formation mechanism, raising questions about the standard model of the Universe. Astronomer Alexia Lopez led the discovery, which was presented at the American Astronomical Society meeting and published in the Journal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics, suggesting the need for a reevaluation of current cosmological theories.
