A new poll by More in Common reveals that less than half of the British public still see the US as an ally following Donald Trump’s recent verbal attacks on Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy. Mainland Europeans are even more disillusioned, with only 24% of French and 23% of Germans viewing the US as an ally. Despite this, there is strong unity across Europe, with high percentages of Brits, Germans, and French still considering each other as allies. Additionally, more than half of Brits believe Trump is a dictator, but only 13% agree with this statement. Despite the negative polling, a third of the public would not encourage the UK government to withdraw its invitation to Trump for a second state visit. Over half of the public supports PM Keir Starmer’s approach to the Ukraine war, with 48% approving of him acting as a diplomatic bridge between the US and Europe.
