The WHO released guidelines recommending the use of lower-sodium salt substitutes containing potassium to reduce sodium intake and lower blood pressure, impacting cardiovascular health positively and preventing strokes. These guidelines aim to reduce noncommunicable diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases and chronic kidney disease, associated with high sodium intake, with evidence supporting the use of lower-sodium salt substitutes in households. The guidelines exclude individuals with kidney impairments and suggest policymakers and health professionals promote the reduction of sodium intake using potassium-enhanced salt alternatives.
