Ten years ago, Jean-François Lisée predicted the rebirth of Quebec’s independence movement, which seemed unlikely after the 2018 election saw the Parti Québécois reduced to 10 seats. Now, with a young, charismatic leader, the PQ is ahead in the polls and promising a third referendum by 2030, hoping to breathe new life into the aging independence movement. Despite the party’s popularity, support for independence remains stagnant at around 35%, with concerns about resonating with younger generations and potential challenges from a federal Conservative government looming over the prospect of a renewed push for Quebec sovereignty.
