The U.S. surgeon general is advising that alcoholic drinks carry a cancer warning label due to their link to increased risks of various cancers, with alcohol consumption being the third-leading preventable cause of cancer in the U.S. The report highlights that alcohol is responsible for 100,000 cancer cases and 20,000 cancer deaths annually, more than alcohol-associated traffic crash deaths. Guidelines on alcohol consumption limits should be reassessed to help consumers make informed decisions about their drinking habits, in light of the established link between alcohol consumption and cancer risk.
