Russia detains Uzbek citizen in killing of senior general in Moscow

Russia’s security service detained a suspect, an Uzbek citizen recruited by Ukrainian intelligence services, in the killing of Lt.-Gen. Igor Kirillov in Moscow. The suspect was promised $100,000 and permission to move to the EU in exchange for killing Kirillov, who was under sanctions from multiple countries for his role in military operations in Ukraine. The suspect placed a bomb on an electric scooter outside Kirillov’s apartment building and detonated it remotely, triggering a terrorism investigation by Russian authorities.
