These economists say artificial intelligence can narrow U.S. deficits by improving health care

According to economists at the Brookings Institution, AI could potentially reduce the annual U.S. budget deficit by 1.5% of GDP by 2044, primarily through improving health care services and public health. The use of AI in health care could make the system more efficient, democratize access, and ease pressure on the government’s fiscal deficit, which reached $1.8 trillion in 2023. While challenges like regulation and incentives exist, the transformative impact of AI on health care productivity and outcomes could be more significant than past technological advancements, potentially leading to a healthier population and decreased need for medical interventions.
