An animal rights group has accused Charles River Laboratories of running a “monkey laundering scheme” by importing live macaques from Cambodia to Canada, converting them into “specimens” at their Quebec facilities, and then re-exporting them to the U.S. despite a temporary ban on such imports. Charles River Laboratories is a major supplier of monkeys for experimentation, with facilities in Quebec and Massachusetts, raising concerns about the exploitation of a loophole in moving monkeys through Canada.
