The United States has implemented 50 percent tariffs on approximately $20 billion worth of Canadian goods after trade negotiations failed. In response, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that Canada would impose retaliatory tariffs “dollar for dollar.” These tariffs affect about 5 percent of Canadian exports to the U.S., including electronics and dairy products. U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer criticized Canada for not finalizing the trade deal, which he deemed a missed opportunity.
