Twenty-three people were rescued in Georgian Bay after an ice shelf they were standing on broke away from shore. The Ontario Provincial Police responded to reports of individuals stranded on the ice near Balmy Beach shortly before noon, with the ice moving about two kilometers due to wind and current. Although some individuals suffered minor injuries, including hypothermia, all were airlifted to safety by 2:30 p.m. Emergency crews, including the OPP aviation team and paramedics, collaborated in the rescue effort.
