Influenza deaths in Alberta have reached alarming levels this season, with 250 fatalities reported, the highest since the province began tracking data in 2009. Health experts express concern over the significant strain on the healthcare system, highlighting a low vaccination rate of just 20.1%. Contributing factors include low community immunity and a mismatch between circulating flu strains and the vaccine. Alberta’s flu season has been driven primarily by the H3N2 strain, now transitioning to Influenza B.
