Air Canada and WestJet are suspending flights to Cuba due to a jet fuel shortage at Havana’s José Martí International Airport, which has warned it will run out of fuel. Air Canada will send empty planes to retrieve around 3,000 customers currently in Cuba and has canceled seasonal flights while planning to resume some by May 1. WestJet will also send empty aircraft to ensure safe returns and has adjusted its winter schedule, planning to resume service on April 26. The situation follows a Canadian government travel advisory related to the fuel crisis, which has been exacerbated by U.S. sanctions on Venezuelan oil exports to Cuba.
