Premier Susan Holt Declines Federal Gun Buyback Program

New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt announced that the province will not participate in the federal gun buyback program, citing impracticality and resource concerns for public safety. While the New Brunswick RCMP will assist Public Safety Canada in collecting banned firearms, they plan to utilize reservists and public servants to avoid compromising frontline policing. Municipal police forces also express reluctance to engage in the program due to resource limitations. The New Brunswick Chiefs of Police Association is set to meet in February to discuss their stance on the initiative.
