Pleasure boaters must renew licenses every five years
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The federal government has mandated that pleasure boaters must renew their pleasure craft licences (PCLs) every five years, introducing a $24 fee for this service. These changes, announced by MP Patrick Weiler, aim to combat the issue of derelict vessels, which pose environmental hazards. The new rules, effective from December 31, 2025, require PCL holders to update their information within 30 days of any changes. Starting December 31, 2027, these requirements will extend to wind-powered craft over six meters long.
