Ottawa’s transit system, OC Transpo, is facing severe bus reliability issues due to an aging fleet of over 330 articulated buses, many exceeding 15 years of service. Despite improved train services and hiring more drivers, the cancellation rate has surged, with one in ten buses not operating in early January. Officials attribute the problems to old diesel buses, which require extensive repairs and are being strained beyond their lifespan. Additionally, the delayed arrival of new electric buses exacerbates the situation, leaving OC Transpo with insufficient operational capacity.
