Polar Bears International has developed “bear-dar,” a radar system to detect polar bears and enhance safety for communities encountering these animals. Installed in August 2025 at Eureka’s weather station in Nunavut, the system alerts users via text, email, or remote deterrents when bears are nearby. The technology, refined with military expertise and AI, is being tested in Svalbard, where increased polar bear sightings have been reported. Although costly, this tool offers promising applications for wildlife detection and community safety.
