Lebanon and Egypt signed a memorandum of understanding to address Lebanon’s natural gas needs for electricity generation, with Lebanese Energy Minister Joe Saddy and Egyptian Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi representing their respective countries. The MOU allows Lebanon to import natural gas from Egypt, contingent on future contractual and pricing agreements. Saddy noted this initiative could lead to supplying the Deir Ammar plant and requires pipeline rehabilitation and coordination with Syria. Lebanon’s electricity provider currently delivers only a few hours of power daily, exacerbating the country’s ongoing energy crisis.
