Snow and wind impact parts of Newfoundland and Labrador

Newfoundland and Labrador is experiencing severe winter weather, with the Green Bay-White Bay area expecting up to 60 cm of snow and wind gusts reaching 110 km/h. Travel conditions are hazardous, prompting road closures and affecting power for over 3,000 residents, while Marine Atlantic and St. John’s International Airport have canceled services. Despite these challenges, local officials highlight the positive economic impact of the snow on tourism activities like skiing. Meteorologist Graham MacDonald noted that this winter has been notably busier than in recent years, likening it to an “old fashioned winter.”
