Two 2SLGBTQ+ advocacy organizations, Egale Canada and Alberta’s Skipping Stone Foundation, are continuing a court challenge against Alberta’s Bill 26, which restricts gender-affirming care for youth under 16. This follows the passage of Bill 9, invoking the notwithstanding clause to protect related laws from legal challenges. The organizations argue that Bill 26 is unconstitutional and discriminates against gender-diverse youth. The Alberta government is appealing a judge’s injunction that currently allows access to these treatments.
