Steven Guilbeault resigned from his cabinet positions in the Canadian government over his strong opposition to a new oil pipeline deal between Ottawa and Alberta. While Liberal colleagues praised his contributions, Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne emphasized the necessity of the deal for Canada’s energy future. Guilbeault criticized the lack of consultation with British Columbia and coastal First Nations, as well as the rollback of climate policies. Prime Minister Mark Carney acknowledged their differing views but expressed gratitude for Guilbeault’s ongoing commitment to climate issues within the Liberal caucus.
