Smith advises industrial carbon tax set at affordable level
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith stated that the timeline for the province’s carbon tax to reach a “minimum” of $130 per tonne should depend on industry affordability. This follows a new energy deal with Prime Minister Mark Carney, which supports a new Alberta-B.C. bitumen pipeline and exempts Alberta from certain clean electricity regulations. While Smith agreed to increase the carbon tax, she emphasized that any rise should not jeopardize the competitiveness of the industry. Negotiations on the carbon pricing policy will continue, aiming for a resolution by next April.
