Manitoba’s theatre community is grieving the loss of Ian Ross, a prominent Métis-Ojibway playwright and educator, who passed away at 57. Known for his acclaimed play fareWel, which won the Governor General’s Award, Ross also created the “Joe from Winnipeg” character for CBC. He was dedicated to mentoring Indigenous playwrights through the Pimootayowin Creators Circle. His contributions to storytelling and support for Indigenous voices will be deeply missed.
