An Oshawa couple, Stafford and Karen Gordon, lost valuable personal items, including a gold chain worth approximately $8,000, when an American Airlines flight attendant mistakenly took their carry-on luggage during a flight to Jamaica. Despite assurances that the bag would be tagged and sent to their destination, it was lost, and the airline denied reimbursement for items over $100 without receipts. They received $1,272 in compensation but felt the airline’s handling of the situation was inadequate, citing the attendant’s forceful removal of their luggage. Air Passenger Rights expert Gábor Lukács noted that compensation limits apply unless there is willful misconduct by the airline.
