OTTAWA

Industry Minister Melanie Joly announced the initiation of a dispute resolution process with Stellantis due to the company’s decision to shift production of a new Jeep model to the U.S., impacting the Brampton assembly plant. During her testimony before a parliamentary committee, she asserted that the government believes there has been a contract violation, aiming to protect 3,000 jobs at the facility. Stellantis stated it is still operational and is exploring solutions for its Canadian manufacturing future. Conservative critics expressed concerns about job security for families in the region.
