Mining company Sio Silica has proposed a sand-extraction operation in southeastern Manitoba, offering the Brokenhead Ojibway Nation a five percent share of profits, which could amount to $20 million annually once fully operational. The silica sand found in the region is noted for its high purity, at 99.85 percent.
