Ukraine and Russia poised for biggest prisoner swap but details scarce

Prisoner Swap Between Russia and Ukraine

Russia and Ukraine are set to conduct a significant prisoner swap, exchanging 1,000 prisoners each, the largest since the 2022 invasion, following a meeting in Istanbul that failed to yield progress on peace talks. US President Donald Trump expressed optimism about the swap’s potential to lead to negotiations, although confirmation from either side remains pending. Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov indicated future talks, questioning Ukrainian President Zelensky’s legitimacy and suggesting the need for new elections before any peace agreement can be finalized.
