Up to $4 billion will be invested in upgrading New Zealand’s sole naval base in Devonport, while $2.5 billion is allocated for addressing aging defense infrastructure. Associate Defence Minister Chris Penk confirmed the funding priorities aimed at compliance and safety concerns. Key initiatives include modernizing facilities at Ōhakea and Waiōuru, with the Devonport upgrade expected to continue until 2060. This funding is part of the $12 billion Defence Capability Plan announced in April.
