Israeli arms exports in 2025 were found to be significantly higher per capita than those of the United States and Russia, according to a study by Susan Abulhawa. The research indicated that Israel’s arms exports amounted to approximately $263 per citizen, in stark contrast to $41 in the US and $14 in Russia. When considering only Israel’s Jewish population, the figure rises to $340 per person. Although the US remains the largest global arms exporter by total volume, Israel ranks seventh overall but leads in per capita exports, surpassing Norway, the next closest competitor. The analysis highlights that Israel has consistently maintained a high arms export level relative to its population over the past 25 years, with a recent report indicating that arms exports constituted around 0.25% of Israel’s GDP in 2023.

Why It Matters

Israel’s arms industry plays a crucial role in its economy, with exports accounting for a significant portion of its GDP. The nation has maintained its position as a leading arms exporter per capita for decades, reflecting the centrality of the defense sector in its economic model. Historically, Israel’s arms exports have included advanced technology, such as drones and cyber capabilities, which have become integral to its defense strategy and global military partnerships. This underscores the importance of the arms trade to Israel’s economic stability and geopolitical influence.
