Israel approves first ambassador to Somaliland and increases cooperation

Israel has approved the appointment of its first ambassador to Somaliland, following the formal recognition of the breakaway region in December 2025. The new ambassador, Dr. Mohammed Haji, is an adviser to the President of Somaliland and has played a key role in fostering relations between the two entities. This development coincides with a training course organized by Israel’s International Cooperation Centre to assist Somaliland’s Water Authority in improving its water sector.
