Geneva Academy projects Gaza death toll may exceed 200,000

Stuart Casey Maslen, head of the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, reported that Gaza’s population has declined by over 10% as of October 2023, indicating approximately 200,000 deaths. While hostilities have diminished since the previous year, Maslen emphasized the ongoing humanitarian crisis, citing a need for increased aid and reconstruction efforts. He noted that at least 70,000 civilians have been killed, with the final toll likely higher. Maslen also discussed the complexities of addressing potential genocide and the necessity for justice for those unlawfully killed in the conflict.
