RSF Claims Control of Heglig Oilfield in Sudan
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have seized control of the crucial Heglig oilfield in South Kordofan, which is vital for South Sudan’s oil revenue. Government forces and oil workers withdrew to South Sudan to prevent clashes that could damage the facilities. The Heglig site is essential for oil transport through pipelines to Port Sudan, and the ongoing conflict since April 2023 has disrupted South Sudan’s oil exports, which previously averaged 100,000 to 150,000 barrels per day.
