China rejected US President Donald Trump’s proposal for a 50% cut in defence budget by the US, Russia, and China, stating that its “limited” defence spending is necessary to protect its sovereignty, security, and development interests. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized that their defence spending is aimed at maintaining world peace. Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the idea, suggesting a mutual 50% cut in military budgets.
