Army airstrike on village in western Myanmar killed at least 40 people, reports say

An airstrike by Myanmar’s army on a village controlled by the Arakan Army in western Rakhine state killed 40 civilians and injured over 20 others, with hundreds of houses burned in the ensuing fire. The attack in Kyauk Ni Maw village on Ramree island on Wednesday was confirmed by officials of the group and a local charity, but the military has not acknowledged the incident. The violence adds to the ongoing conflict in Myanmar since the military coup in February 2021, with many areas now engulfed in fighting as opponents of military rule take up arms.
