At least 27 individuals lost their lives when a minibus carrying members of a church collided head-on with a haulage truck in central Zimbabwe on August 28, 2026. The accident took place around 18:30 GMT near Chivhu, located about 140 kilometers south of the capital, Harare, according to police spokesperson Paul Nyathi. The truck was reportedly trying to overtake another vehicle when it struck the minibus, which was en route to a church conference. State-run broadcaster ZBC News reported that 23 victims died at the scene, while others later succumbed to their injuries at a local hospital. The incident highlights ongoing safety concerns on Zimbabwean roads, which are plagued by potholes and poor maintenance.
